“Why Food is Medicine for Eating Disorders”
With Laura Collins. F.E.A.S.T. founder (Families Empowered & Supporting Treatment of Eating Disorders) and author of “Eating With Your Anorexic”

It is increasingly clear that science and the public have until recently gravely misunderstood both the cause and treatment of eating disorders.

What would seem to be obvious – that the brain needs food – and that growing adolescents need even more food – has been lost as our society has become obsessed with weight loss and using food in non-traditional ways.

Collins, the mother of a daughter who recovered from a life-threatening eating disorder, will explain how to identify and understand eating disorders in terms of nutrition and neuroscience.

A passionate advocate for Family-Based treatment, Collins empowers parents and the community to learn about, and learn from, eating disorders.

The Farm to Community Health Outreach Series features a monthly speakers, and takes place monthly on every third Saturday at Fields of Athenry Farm, 38082 Snickersville Turnpike, Purcellville, VA
