The Urban Homestead, Part I
Modern agricultural practice emphasizes atomistic, "one-for-one" solutions. This presentation will start with a critique of such approaches (chemical salts from a bag for soil fertility, something toxic from a bottle for problem insects, etc.) and their cascading deleterious effects. It will then propose some integrated, multi-functional solutions for more self-sufficient food production. Since Harvey is The Chicken Man of Hume, it will conclude with a more detailed consideration of the ways in which the home poultry flock can integrate with other goals and needs in the homestead, in holistic and synergistic ways.
