COLORADO COW SHARE PROGRAM
IN JEOPARDY
The Colorado Board of Health is planning to prohibit the cow share
program, which would eliminate our access to raw milk and raw milk products
produced in Colorado. Essentially they are adopting the federal
standards:
("Adoption of United States Public Health Service Ordinance:
Applicability
of the Grade A Pasteurized Milk Ordinance AND THE PROHIBITION OF THE
SALE OF
RAW MILK").
Included in this statute is this definition of "SALE":
SALE/SOLD, AS USED IN THE PMO, MEANS ANY TRANSACTION THAT INVOLVES THE
TRANSFER OF MILK OR MILK PRODUCTS, INCLUDING DAIRY ANIMAL COLOSTRUM,
OR
THE RIGHT TO ACQUIRE SUCH MILK OR MILK PRODUCTS IN EXCHANGE FOR ANY
FORM OF COMPENSATION OR CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION. THE SALE OF UNDIVIDED
SHARES OR
INTERESTS IN A COW OR DAIRY HERD CONSTITUTES THE SALE OF RAW MILK.
Please write letters, or emails, or make phone
calls
(written preferred, but calls help, too!) to the Colorado Board of
Health by May 6, 2004.

They will not look at form letters of any kind, so please send personal
correspondence. Points to get across in your correspondence
include:
- Health benefits you personlly have experienced drinking raw milk.
- It
is our right as Americans to have access to foods of our choosing.
- We
want to be able to buy raw milk legally.
- Your thoughts on milk safety,
quality, and cleanliness.
Please keep your comments respectful and courteous. We want to take
progress with the Board of Health. Again, all letters must be received
by
May 6, 2004 to be included in the hearing packet.
