Grazefest Princeton Celebrates
Pasture-Based Farming
This month, food stores and restaurants in Princeton, New Jersey, will
honor farmers who raise their animals on pasture as part of Grazefest,
a national grassroots promotional campaign that's spreading the word
about the culinary, environmental, animal-welfare, and human-health
benefits of foods from grass-fed and pasture-raised animals.
Throughout the weeklong Grazefest Princeton celebration, scheduled for
November 11-17, restaurants and retailers, including Small World
Coffee, the Bent Spoon, Mediterra, and the Whole Earth Center, will highlight
pasture-raised products through tastings and special menu items.
They'll also distribute free copies of The Great News about Grass-a 12-page,
consumer-oriented booklet that outlines the multiple benefits of
pasture-based farming-and Alternatives to Factory Farms-a brochure that
explains and differentiates labels, such as organic, free-range, and
grass-fed, and points residents to where they can buy pasture-raised
foods.
On Monday evening, November 15, Mediterra Restaurant will host the
Grassfed Gourmet Wine Dinner-a 5-course wine dinner featuring products
from
the region's finest pasture-based farms. Guests will receive a
complimentary copy of The Grassfed Gourmet Cookbook-the first-ever cookbook
and
guide to pasture-raised foods.
Grazefest Princeton is sponsored by the Whole Earth Center, a nonprofit
natural foods store based in Princeton; The Nature Conservancy; and
Natural by Nature, producers of organic, grass-fed dairy products. A
project of Eating Fresh Publications, Grazefest Princeton is one of
a
series
of regional Grazefest events that have taken place across the country
this fall.
