A Groundbreaking Conference on Essential Shifts
for Personal, Social and Global Transformation
June 20, 2005
From July 6 to 11, 2005, the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) will
hold its 11th International Conference in the Washington DC area. The
conference theme is "Consciousness and Healing" and it will
bring together cutting edge thinkers, leaders, and activists for an
examination of the essential shifts needed to move our world in the
direction of personal, social and global change. More than 85 luminaries
will present a vision of profound hope, grounded in rigorous science,
wisdom, and compassion. Four days of inspiring keynotes, powerful workshops,
stimulating dialogues, community, music, and celebration will make this
a truly unforgettable experience.
The conference is an extraordinary opportunity to be uplifted, encouraged
and inspired. Within the theme of "healing our world", specific
keynotes, plenary sessions and dozens of workshops will address the
latest research and understanding regarding global conditions, the shifts
that are occurring, and how we can advance them. For example, Apollo
14 astronaut and IONS founder Edgar Mitchell will present an important
full-day workshop on "Consciousness and Sustainability"; Kenny
Ausubel
founder of Bioneers will explore "Ecological Medicine and the Fate
of the Earth"; and Penny Livingston-Stark will examine "Permaculture:
Reconnection of the Human Spirit to the Earth". (See full descriptions
below).
This is the first time in over a decade that an IONS conference has
been held in the Washington DC area, and it comes at a time and to a
place where "good news" is greatly needed. As IONS President
James O'Dea has observed, "The world is increasingly desperate
for hope in the face of seemingly intractable problems. This conference
will demonstrate that a new culture is arising and that major shifts
are underway, if only we support them. Human civilization is at a great
fork in the road, and
this conference will help illuminate the evolutionary path forward."
Please take a moment to go the IONS website at http://www.noetic.org/
for full conference and registration information.
The Institute of Noetic Sciences is an international nonprofit that
for 30 years has explored the intersection of science and consciousness.
(The word "noetic" comes from the ancient Greek nous, and
refers to "inner knowing," or intuitive consciousness.) ION's
research focus includes emerging paradigms, extended human capacities
and integral health and healing.

Edgar Mitchell, PhD
Sustainability
Global events of past years, now exacerbated by recent policies of
the United States, are threatening to make sustainable development of
planet Earth unattainable. Sustainability has been the long-range goal
of environmentalists, agriculturists, futurists and hosts of activists
for at least four decades as concerns about global overpopulation, poverty,
species extinction, global warming, deforestation and related issues
have mounted. We are now witnessing the quiet dissembling of more than
thirty years of laws and protections that moved civilization toward
a sustainable future. This workshop will examine the issues, the impact
of recent legislation, and the possible courses of action open to us.
Edgar Mitchell, PhD is the founder of the Institute of Noetic Sciences
and a former Apollo Astronaut. His many credentials and degrees include
four honorary doctorates and a PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics from
MIT. Dr. Mitchell is a luminescent lecturer and author of several books,
including The Way of the Explorer.
Kenny Ausubel
Ecological Medicine and the Fate of the Earth
As the world's ecosystems reach a tipping point of likely collapse,
social and scientific innovators called "bioneers" are mapping
a practical future of restoration based on nature's operating instructions.
One of
the strongest pathways to restoration is the emerging field of Ecological
Medicine, the recognition that human and environmental health are one
notion, indivisible.
Kenny Ausubel, founder and co-executive director of Bioneers, is an
award-winning journalist, filmmaker and social entrepreneur. He co-founded
Seeds of Change, a biodiversity organic seed company, and wrote the
book Seeds of Change: The Living Treasure. He is the author of the books
The Bioneers: Declarations of Interdependence, profiling the
Bioneers culture, and When Healing Becomes a Crime: The Amazing
Story of Hoxsey Cancer Clinics and the Return of Alternative
Therapies. Most recently,
he edited the first two titles in the Bioneers book series with J.P
Harpignies: Ecological Medicine: Healing the Earth, Healing Ourselves,
and Nature's Operating Instructions: The True Biotechnologies.
Penny Livingston-Stark
Permaculture: Reconnection of the Human Spirit to the Earth
This workshop will explore the fundamental permaculture principles
of ecology and regenerative design. Tools will be given to learn ways
to connect with the earth, develop a renewed relationship with place
and the environment. Penny will share strategies for developing "human
based ecologies" that create more fertility and viability on the
land while providing for the needs of people, wildlife and all other
sentient beings on the planet.
Penny Livingston-Stark is internationally recognized as a prominent
permaculture teacher, designer and speaker. She is the founder of Sustainable
Living Designs, The Permaculture Institute of Northern California, and
Regenerative Design Institute. Penny has been working professionally
in the land management and development field for 25 years and has extensive
experience in all phases of ecologically sound landscape design and
construction as well as the use of natural non-toxic building
materials.
