1. Oct. 1-2: Mother Earth Harvest Fair: A Celebration of Sustainable
Living Spoutwood Farm, Glen Rock, PA (near York, PA)
The second annual Mother Earth Harvest Fair will be presented by
Spoutwood Farm Saturday and Sunday October 1 and 2 from 10am to 6pm.
The Fair celebrates healthy people working for and enjoying a healthy
planet. Partly we pay tribute to the simple traditions and values of
harvest festivals of the past where apples are pressed into cider, garden
and farm bounty is proudly displayed, and the animals used to plow our
fields or to clothe and nourish us are lavishly appreciated. In the
spirit of good old-fashioned fun we'll have country dancing in the big
barn, lots
of other music and storytelling, harvest craft activities for kids,
a
Mother Earth Nature Poetry Marathon, good food for all tastes and
natural and folk crafts to marvel and delight.
Over 30 speakers and more than 100 informative exhibits from
organizations and vendors will be featured. Admission to the Mother
Earth Harvest Fair is $10 for adults and $5 for children, free to those
2 and under. Guests who decide to volunteer when they arrive at the
Fair can request a 2-hour job assignment. Upon completion of the assignment,
the admission fee will be refunded.

2. Oct 21-23: 2005 Women in Sustainable Agriculture Conference.
Burlington, VT.
The 2005 Women in Sustainable Agriculture Conference will bring
together farmers, educators, and activists involved in sustainable agriculture
to share educational and organization strategies, build technical and
business skills, and address policy issues all aimed at expanding the
success of women in sustainable agriculture. The conference, to be held
October 21-23, 2005 in Burlington, VT, will work to set the agenda for
the next decade of supporting women in agriculture. Who: Farmers, ranchers,
growers, service providers, educators, social and political activists,
and those who care about food, fiber and the natural world. Why: To
honor the role of women in agriculture, to celebrate the power of women's
networks to create change and to plant the seeds for future work.

3. October 14-16: Chesapeake Bioneers Conference at the University
of the District of Columbia, Washington DC, will feature a live satellite
feed from the National Bioneers Conference in California, with local
ecological pioneers giving hands-on presentations as well. The Chesapeake
Bioneers are residents of our region who seek visionary, practical solutions

4. October 18 - 19: Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable
Agriculture (PASA): Organic Dairying Midway Mennonite Center, Lancaster
County, PA, 10am -3pm Cost: $80 PASA and PCO Members, $100 Non-Members
Registration is limited. Lunch will be provided both days. Valuable
resources guides included. Demand for organic milk far outstrips supply.
This two day intensive is designed for all dairy farmers including those
who
are currently certified and those who are considering transitioning
to organic production.
