Action Alert: Budget Line Amendment
"No funds derived from any source shall be used to implement,
develop, maintain,
enforce, or support any mandatory provisions of the program identified
by the United States Department of Agriculture as the 'National Identification
System.'"
This Budget Line Amendment goes to vote in House Appropriations Subcommittee
#3 on Thursday, January 7.
Sponsor: Delegate Ben Cline
ACTION: Please call the members of the subcommittee
and ask them to SUPPORT this budget line amendment that prohibits funding
for a mandatory National Animal Identification System in Virginia (it
is Budget Item 102 #1h, inserted on page 82 after line 2--for more information
see below).

"No funds derived from any source shall be used to implement, develop,
maintain,
enforce, or support any mandatory provisions of the program identified
by the United States Department of Agriculture as the "National
Animal Identification System."
Explanation:
(This amendment prohibits the Department of Agriculture and Consumer
Services
from expending funds to implement or participate in any mandatory provisions
of the USDA's National Identification System for livestock. It is intended
to allow for
voluntary participation in the program by farmers and producers.)
