Foundation Report, Fall 2005:
Annual Membership Drive
By Bill Sanda
We are very pleased to welcome 345 new members since the Foundation
launched its first annual membership drive on September 9. The drive
will continue until our Wise Traditions conference on November
11-13, located in the Washington, DC area.
Please consider extending the well-being and joy you can bring to your
family, friends, neighbors, work associates. . . even just plain strangers.
You can do this by sharing your experience with another, whether it
is the experience of healing or a new taste in foods. We have so many
wonderful testimonials from our members about their restored health
through food and nutrition. Just create your own "testimonial"
and share it with others.
It is actually very easy to do. People are hungry for what we are doing.
Just share yourself! That’s all it takes. Then, invite them to
become a member of the Foundation.
As an added bonus, the Foundation will give each person who enrolls
5 new members before the Conference a special gift. Sally Fallon has
just created a new hard-bound edition of Nourishing Traditions
that will be available at the Wise Traditions 2005 conference.
Our gift for 5 new memberships will be a copy of this wonderful classic
in the new edition form. If you bring in 15 new members before the Conference,
the Foundation will gladly pay for your Wise Traditions 2005
Conference registration fee.
As you discuss becoming a member with friends and colleagues, have
on hand either our informational
brochure or our membership form. This form is posted on our website
at www.westonaprice.org/membershipform.pdf.
Please understand that due to our preparations for the Conference, we
will be unable to track the new members associated with you--so, we’ll
simply rely upon you to do that and then notify us.
If you have any questions or concerns about enrolling or registering
new members, please do not hesitate to call the Foundation at 202 363-4394
or email us at info@westonaprice.org. The original announcement can
be found at www.westonaprice.org under Action Alerts. On behalf of Sally
Fallon and myself, we thank you for your commitment, courage
and compassion. It is a joy to work with you all!
WESTON A. PRICE FOUNDATION
LIBRARY ESTABLISHED
WAPF president, Sally Fallon, recently donated nearly 1,000 books,
audio tapes, CDs, DVDs and videos from her personal collection to inaugurate
the Weston A. Price Foundation Library, located in the WAPF Office in
Washington D.C. Foundation member, organizer extraordinaire and volunteer,
Cathy Raymond, did an outstanding job in organizing the library, and
I mean outstanding.
Not surprisingly, the library’s subject areas are diverse and
illustrate the many facets of WAPF interests including:Alternative Medicine,
Cooking/ Cookbooks, Diets, Ecology/Environment, Farming/Animal Husbandry,
Food/Foodways, Gardening, Health/Healing, Medicine, Nutrition, Politics
and Science.
Titles include eye-opening books like Stolen Harvest by Vanda
Shiva and the classical herbal guide Back to Eden by Jethro
Kloss. Cultural traditions are emphasized in You Eat What You Are:
People, Culture and Food Traditions by Thelma Barer-Stein while
Sandor Ellix Katz encourages us to take a walk on the wild side with
Wild Fermentation.
Pioneers David & Gerda Foster’s book, A Year of Slow
Food, keeps company with historical works such as The History
of Randolph Farm. Cookbooks like The Frugal Housewife,
Dedicated to Those Who Are Not Ashamed of Economy (1929) by
Lydia Maria Francis Child to The Grass Fed Gourmet (2004) by
Shannon Hayes span the years.
The media section includes CDs, DVDs, videos and audio tapes featuring
Sally Fallon lectures like Why Butter is Better and The
Oiling of America and radio interviews with Mary Enig. A complete
listing of the library can be found at www.westonaprice.org/wapflibrary.
