Help stop school vaccine clinics in Pennsylvania!

Pennsylvania House Bill 1376 would allow the Department of Health to establish school-based health centers—clinics inside or near schools—that can administer vaccines to students.

This bill increases the risk that students may be vaccinated without proper parental consent. Even though consent forms are mentioned, we have seen real-world examples from other states where children were vaccinated in schools despite parents never giving permission.

In addition, school-based clinics may not have access to a child’s full medical history. This dramatically increases the risk of vaccine injury.

There is no need for schools to expand their services into the realm of medical care. Parents already have ample opportunity to seek vaccines from their family doctor or pediatrician.

School-based vaccine clinics create a high-pressure environment that can single out or stigmatize unvaccinated students, leading to undue social pressure, coercion, or bullying — especially in settings where vaccination is promoted during school hours or in front of peers.

Vaccine package inserts warn of brain damage, life-threatening allergies, and death. No one knows in advance who will be harmed. Clinics inside schools are not necessarily prepared to deal with those outcomes.

Vaccination should remain a private medical decision between a parent and their child’s doctor, not handled in schools.

Allowing vaccinations in school increases the risk of duplicate vaccines being given, especially if the school does not have full access to the student’s medical records.

The U.S. Supreme Court has recognized that vaccines are “unavoidably unsafe.” The federal government has paid out over $5 billion to victims of vaccine injury through the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.

Schools should remain focused on education. Medical decisions—including vaccination—must remain the responsibility of families and trusted healthcare providers.
