Alex Miller is a seventh-generation farmer at Tennessee’s Lick Skillet Farm and the William B. Stokely Chair of Management at the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business. Lick Skillet, originally established in 1919, currently raises pigs, chickens, lamb and beef. Miller grew up raising beef and tobacco and participated in the conventional system until 2017. Now, the farm is up to twenty-three generations of cattle that have never tasted grain. The farm’s approach to livestock production largely relies on common-sense health practices rather than vaccination and antibiotics.
