IN THE NEWS:
CDC CHERRY PICKS DATA TO MAKE CASE AGAINST RAW MILK
Agency ignores data that shows dangers of pasteurized milk
WASHINGTON, DC, February 21, 2012. In a press release issued today, authors affiliated with the Centers for Disease Control claim that the rate of outbreaks caused by unpasteurized milk and products made from it was 150 times greater than outbreaks linked to pasteurized milk.” The authors based this conclusion on an analysis of reports submitted to the CDC from 1993 to 2006.
According to the Weston A. Price Foundation, the CDC has manipulated and cherry picked this data to make raw milk look dangerous and to dismiss the same dangers associated with pasteurized milk.

SCHOOL LUNCH CONTROVERSY
February 16, CNN reported on a North Carolina school official inspecting a pre-schooler’s homemade lunch for compliance with USDA dietary guidelines. The official took away the child’s lunch and insisted that the child eat the cafeteria lunch—which consisted of chicken nuggets.
The Weston A. Price Foundation reviewed the 2010 government guidelines and declared that they provide inadequate nutrition for growing children. Specifically, the guidelines do not permit sufficient fat soluble vitamins, A,D, and K, and critical nutrients for neurological development, choline and Vitamin B-12.
Sally Fallon Morell suggests that the best way for children to get a decent lunch is for parents to make their own child’s lunch with natural whole foods and send it to school. And, now we find that even homemade lunches are being targeted by the government for scrutiny!

Thyroid Cancer on the Rise: Is Soy a Cause?
Thyroid Cancer on the Rise: Is Soy a Cause?
Thyroid cancer is on the rise, and doctors don’t seem to know why. Although radiation, obesity and failure to eat fruits and vegetables sometimes take the blame, the causes are most likely multiple and synergistic. Although much evidence links xenoestrogens — including soy phytoestrogens — to this growing problem, the soy industry claims soy is protective and cites the Bay Area Thyroid Study as proof. This blog reveals serious flaws in terms of this study’s design, methodology and analysis.

New Evidence of Synergy Between Vitamins A and D: Protection Against Autoimmune Diseases
In this post, Chris discusses new research suggesting that vitamins A and D protect against autoimmune diseases. Consistent with previous research, they appear to be most effective when given together. This research used the activated “hormone” forms of the vitamins, but it suggests that nutrient-dense foods rich in these vitamins such as liver and cod liver oil may also be protective against autoimmune conditions.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED by Sally Fallon Morell
Q. What about making stock with pork bones? Would there be reasons for not using these bones?
A. Yes, pork bones make a delicious stock. And great if you can include some skin from a ham or bacon–this provides wonderful material for our own skin.
Q. Is popcorn, whether air-popped or oil-popped, healthy to eat? Is there any way to remove or reduce phytic acid from popcorn?
A. Corn is fairly low in phytic acid so popcorn in moderation is probably fine. Also, when it is eaten with melted butter, the saturated fats help mitigate the effects of phytic acid.
Q. I have NO access to pasture fed animal products, cows, lamb or chickens, do you still recommend we follow the advice of consuming their livers, organs, meats and fats along with using them for bone broths. I do have access to raw milk.
A. I would purchase calves liver but not beef or chicken liver from the grocery store, along with regular fresh meat and eggs, especially beef and lamb. Most calves (not raised for veal) in the U.S. spend the first part of their life on pasture. The raw milk will go a long way to protect you.
Q. My wife has many food and chemical sensitivities. She can consume raw milk and pure foods. She cannot take cod liver oil. Her vitamin D levels are below average. Do you have any recommendations for increasing her vitamin D to a normal level?
A. You will need to stress vitamin-D rich foods, such as fish eggs, shrimp, egg yolks from pastured hens, chicken and pork liver. Also, spend plenty of time in the sunlight during the warmer months.
