Jovial Foods is hosting their 2nd annual Culinary Getaway in Italy. You can join Jenny Mc Gruther, the cooking instructor and real food educator behind the website Nourished Kitchen, and learn how to prepare traditional foods while having the time of your life in the Old World. Jenny will hold a series of traditional foods workshops on seasonal vegetables, properly prepared grains and nose-to-tail eating. Workshops will include information on fermentation, healthy and traditional fats, sourdoughs and delightful preparations of organ meats. Jenny will also teach you about the ancient wheat called einkorn, it is nature’s original wheat and the only one that has never been hybridized. In addition, you can join Jenny and the founder of Jovial on a trip to a beautiful organic einkorn farm, located just outside of Siena.
Accommodations and cooking classes are in a beautiful 18th century villa with an expansive kitchen that’s fully stocked with fresh local foods and good Italian wines. The villa is located in the Tuscan region, just outside of Lucca. It’s a region renowned for its history, culture, rolling hills and farm life. Lucca sits nestled in the Tuscan hills, just a stone’s throw from Pisa. While you’ll stay in an 18th Century Villa, there’s plenty of opportunity to enjoy the sites of the local area.
Jovial Foods and its founders, Carla & Rodolfo, are committed to reviving traditional, heirloom foods and grains like einkorn. All of the organic farming and all of the manufacturing is done in Italy. It is Jovial’s dream to change the future of agriculture by creating consumer demand for ancient and heirloom varieties of food. They have a deep commitment to support a small-scale, sustainable economic model that focuses on farming first and then considers the entire process all the way through to the shelf. They believe the purest food can only come from the purest seed.
