The Oklahoma legislature has introduced a good bill that would expand childhood vaccine exceptions, including adding a conscientious exemption.
Although medical exemptions to vaccination are permitted in all U.S. states, fewer than half of them allow exemptions based on philosophical, personal, or conscientiously held beliefs. Bills are introduced every year to eliminate, restrict, or expand state vaccine requirements and exemptions in multiple states.
The Weston A. Price Foundation advocates for HB 3249, which expands the criteria for medical vaccine exemptions. This bill proposes including situations where vaccination could jeopardize the health or lives of the child’s family or household, not just the child alone. Should other forms of vaccine exemptions be revoked from Oklahoma Law, a broader medical exemption would offer a crucial yet modest protective measure.
The bill also expands exemption options to include exemptions for reasons of conscience. Under existing law, §10-413, Oklahoma children have the option of objecting to vaccination via a medical exemption with a written certificate from a licensed physician or a religious exemption with a written statement by the parent or guardian objecting to immunizations because of religious or “other reasons.” This bill expands the vaccine exemption options for children in the state by including “reasons of conscience, including a religious belief.”

For example, as of 2-23-2023, there have been 2,588,225 adverse events and 37,231 deaths reported in connection with the Covid shots to the CDC’s Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) — and it is estimated that only 1-10 percent of adverse reactions are ever reported. And yet the manufacturers are shielded from liability for any harm they cause.
Vaccine mandates are being justified by the idea of the “greater good” and protecting other people. But no individual should be forced to take a medical treatment for someone else’s benefit.
