San Francisco, CA: Come join us at Layne’s house for our next potluck and hear all about…Overcoming the Five Horsemen of the Apocalypse with the NT Diet : Time, Expense, Money, Availability, and Community…a-la Christapher Cogswell of Radiant Life!
“From a certain anthropological perspective, we in the NT/WAPF community are trying to reverse-engineer a native diet in a sort-of backward way. In order to be successful, we must overcome a host of factors such as finding the time to shop for, prepare, and eat our native foods, challenged with locating and affording the higher costs of these foods. Until now, this method has been the best most of us could do. I believe in order to evolve our activism, we must address the imbalances of modern life in the broadest way possible by focusing on creating systemic living solutions that support the realization of our potential, optimal health, and regeneration of our ecosystems. This shift is already beginning to happen, and I would like to share the latest encouraging news!” says this month’s fancy featured potluck speaker.

For centuries ocean water was used for healing. Why are we not using it now? Is salt good for us? How can water be healing? These two substances are some of the most powerful parts of our diet because of the information they carry. For those of you who saw “What the Bleep”, you understand (as Dr. Emoto pointed out) that water carries messages. It is these messages that helps the body to balance out the internal environment. “This lecture will focus on the the vibrational aspects of salt and water, how it is “sunlight” in a liquid form, and the essential nature of both disease and wellness from a causative level.”

They will all be lightly sweetened with ingredients such as honey, maple syrup, molasses, rapadura, and succunat. ABOUT DARA MERIN: Dara grew up in New York City, where her lifelong passion for food and cooking began. She has been an avid cook both professionally and for friends and family for over fifteen years. Santa Monica, CA: Victoria Bloch presents A Big Fat Talk at the upstairs community room at Wild Oats, 5th & Wilshire. Fat seems to be the continuing hot topic of our day and age. Experts argue about good fats and bad fats. The media tells us (finally) that trans fats are evil, but hastens to remind us that saturated fats are still really bad. Monounsaturated fats (olive and canola oils) are still media darlings, but ads still tell us to buy margarines made from polyunsaturated oils. And then there’s the Weston A. Price Foundation, staunchly maintaining the value of naturally saturated fats like butter and the fat from grass-fed animals! Join chapter leader Victoria Bloch for a lively, informal discussion about fat. What the heck is it, anyway? Why are there such divergent opinions about it? And why is butter really better? Questions encouraged!

Allentown, PA: Jerry Brunetti speaking on: Grass-Based or Grain-Based: Why It Matters. Grass is the Forgiveness of Nature – “All Flesh is Grass.” Grasslands: the future health of our communities, personal health and humanity depend on them. Global warming, cancer, diabetes, obesity, peak oil and environmental degradation are now commonplace themes of discussion not only in the alternative press, but in mainstream media. Just how related are they to one another? What is the common thread that is unraveling? As G.K. Chesterton said, “It isn’t that they can’t see the solution. It is that they can’t see the problem.” The conversion of our precious grasslands into cereal production has created an onslaught of biological destruction that can be readily connected to an avalanche of health problems in our children as well as a dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico the size of New Jersey. The past has spoken of the collapse of many civilizations, but never have we faced such strains upon the biosphere globally as we do currently. “Grass is the forgiveness of nature” and in our need to sustainably feed ourselves, we must embrace the Biblical axiom that “All Flesh is Grass”. Held at Lehigh County Senior Center, 1633 Elm Street, Allentown, PA. Local producers may bring grass fed / organic / biodynamic products for sampling or sale – doors open at 6:30pm – Books and videos will be available. Free admission (donations welcome). Julia always said that the only time to eat “health food” was while you were waiting for the steak to cook. And Julia always made it easy and a lot of fun to cook with all the foods we advocate: not just butter, but cream, broth, fish, and vegetables, too! Join us for an evening with Julia. We’ll choose (as a group) the episodes we want to see, and we’ll walk away inspired to take some of her masterful techniques home with us to use in our own kitchens!

Santa Monica CA: Annual HOLIDAY POTLUCK at Wild Oats, 5th & Wilshire, Santa Monica, in the upstairs community room. Bring a dish (one you made yourself, or something you’ve picked up, as long as whatever it is is within Nourishing Traditions/Weston A. Price Foundation guidelines)…AND/OR bring an appetite…AND/OR bring some plates/napkins/utensils/cups. Our potlucks are always abundant with some incredibly delicious food, thanks to the gifts of our numerous cooks and chefs, so this is an amazing introduction to the Foundation if you’d like to bring a friend/spouse/child/parent! But mostly, it’s a lovely opportunity to chat with people who are interested in health, good food, and traditional nutrition, and I hope you all can join us! Regarding chapter giving, it occurred to me that it would be entirely consistent with our overview to give a cow or two to a poor family elsewhere in the world. Oxfam America makes it possible to do just that (or even a sheep or camel, for that matter) for $75 per cow. If enough of us like this idea, I will take $75 from chapter donations and buy a cow! Will you let me know?
