The ninth of our 11 Wise Traditions Dietary Principles is to use unrefined salt liberally. We recommend unrefined salt and offer a complete list of recommendations in our annual shopping guide sent to all members or available for purchase for a nominal fee. Cream of tartar s a rich, natural source of potassium. Potassium works with sodium to balance fluids inside and outside your cells. Adequate potassium helps your body hold onto the right amount of water during physical activity or heat stress. You can make a simple, natural electrolyte drink at home using cream of tartar for potassium and sea salt for sodium.
Ingredients
- Water:Β 1 liter (about 4 cups) of clean, filtered water
- Potassium:Β Β½ tsp cream of tartar (potassium bitartrate)
- Sodium:Β ΒΌ tsp pure sea salt such as Jacobsen’s Pure Kosher Sea Salt or Maldon’s
- Flavor / Minerals:Β 1 to 2 tbsp fresh lemon or lime juice
- Optional Sweetener:Β 1 to 2 tsp raw honey or maple syrup
Instructions
- Combine:Β Add the water, cream of tartar, and sea salt to a large bottle or jar.
- Flavor:Β Squeeze in the fresh lemon or lime juice, and add your choice of sweetener if desired.
- Mix:Β Secure the lid and shake or stir vigorously for 15β20 seconds until all the powders and salt are fully dissolved.
