Nutrition Experts Bring Health & Wellness Conference to Portland, Oregon
May 30, 2013—Portland, OR – Nutrition and health experts who believe good health starts with a return to traditional diets of our ancestors will converge in Portland this September. They will present at Wise Traditions, a two-day regional conference that examines the benefits of nutrient-dense foods and holistic therapies. The conference is open to the public and attracts health-conscious consumers as well as nutritionists, physicians, dieticians, nurses, farmers, chefs and journalists.
The popular, biannual event is sponsored by the Weston A. Price Foundation, an educational non-profit focused on promoting “traditional” foods rich in essential nutrients, such as pasture-raised meat and organ meats, wild-caught seafood, eggs, butter and full-fat dairy products. It will take place on September 21-22, 2013 at the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel.
Over the course of the weekend, attendees will have a chance to participate in life-changing lectures, cooking demonstrations and fascinating exhibits showcasing local foods, nutritional supplements and holistic therapies. Topics of discussion include “Getting Started with Traditional Foods,” “Myths and Truths about Nutrition and Health,” “Nutrition for Chronic Disease,” and “Raising a Healthy Baby.” For those who want an in-depth look at the nutrition research of Dr. Weston A. Price, the weekend kicks off with a presentation by the foundation’s president, Sally Fallon Morell, titled “Nourishing Traditional Diets: The Key to Vibrant Health.”
The rest of the weekend features presentations by fascinating speakers including: Denise Minger, a Portland-based writer and blogger whose analysis of The China Study sparked a public debate with its author, T. Colin Campbell in 2010; Nora Gedgaudas, author of Primal Body, Primal Mind: Beyond the Paleo Diet for Total Health and Longer Life; and Dr. Kaayla Daniel, the “The Naughty Nutritionist,” known for her ability to debunk nutritional myths.
Full and one-day registrations are available; the registration fee includes admission to the lectures and exhibit hall. In addition, attendees can purchase tickets to Saturday evening’s dinner-and-a-movie, with donations benefiting the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund. The Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund is a non-profit organization committed to protecting family farms and artisan food producers from unlawful government interference in the sale of processed and unprocessed farm foods.
