WESTON A. PRICE FOUNDATION
ACTION ALERT
February 7, 2006
Micah West, a resident of Naples, Florida, and a follower of Weston Price’s dietary principles is requesting help. On Feb. 20, 2006 there will be an evidentiary hearing over the custody of Micah’s two children (sons ages 3 and 5-1/2) in the Collier County Courthouse, Florida. Micah and his wife are currently separated and have temporary joint custody of the children pending their divorce. She is asking the court to give her full custody, and sole parental responsibility over the children, claiming that Micah is unfit to be a parent. Her reasons for this claim are (1) he has fed the children raw milk and (2) he has refused to have the children vaccinated.
On January 12, 2006, Micah’s wife took the youngest child to the doctor when a bout of diarrhea the child had been experiencing for two weeks had not subsided. His wife told the doctor that the child’s symptoms had been aggravated by dairy products, and that the father had been giving him unpasteurized milk. The doctor took stool cultures and lab results showed that the child’s diarrhea was not due to infection. Nonetheless, the doctor strongly recommended against giving the child unpasteurized milk.
On January 23, 2006 the child’s doctor sent a letter to the case worker in the Florida Dept. of Children & Families (DCF) monitoring the West children’s custody. In the letter the doctor stated: “while it is not 100% certain that [the child] has a true lactose intolerance, it is certain that he should not be consuming unpasteurized milk.” He also stated: “At this time I recommend that [the child] drink soy milk to prevent further ‘flair ups’ of diarrhea.” Along with the letter, the doctor sent the case worker a copy of an article from the September-October 2004 issue of FDA Consumer Magazine entitled “Got Milk? Make Sure it’s Pasteurized.”
After receiving the letter from the doctor, the case worker spoke to Micah and told him that based on the doctor’s opinion he should stop giving his children raw milk. The case worker also informed Micah of the doctor’s recommendation that he give the children soy milk. When he said he did not want his children to have soy milk, the case worker told him to let DCF know what kind of milk substitute he would be providing his children.
To defeat his wife’s claim that feeding their children raw milk makes him an unfit parent, Micah is seeking any of the following help:
(1) written testimonials from those whose health has benefited from the consumption of raw milk;
(2) letters from health practitioners describing the safety and efficacy of raw milk;
(3) peer review scientific literature describing the same; and
(4) additionally, anyone who is willing to appear at the hearing to testify on the health benefits of raw milk can contact Micah.

Micah’s case represents an opportunity to respond to the false information put out by the government and medical establishment on the “dangers” of raw milk consumption. For a court to hold that feeding children raw milk constitutes child abuse is an outrage that no one can accept. This situation cannot be ignored. Action must be taken, and one of our own must be supported. Mr. West needs our help to set the record straight. Please contact him today.
