Tell Your Senators to Remove Section 20 from SB 639
Support Pet Milk Sales and Pet Health in NC
Thanks for your calls and emails asking for the removal of Sections 19 (pesticide manufacturer immunity) and Section 20 (herdshare ban) from Senate Bill 639 (SB 639), the North Carolina Farm Act of 2025.
SB 639 passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee with Section 19 intact and Section 20 amended to ban raw pet milk sales instead of herdshares. It looks like the best opportunity to remove Section 19 from the NC Farm Bill will be in the House.
There is a chance to remove Section 20 (now “Repeal the Sale of Raw Milk for Nonhuman Consumption”) on the Senate floor. The Senate vote on SB 639 possibly could be as early as Wednesday, May 14th.
Please contact your state senator asking him or her to support removal of Section 20 from SB 639.

TALKING POINTS
1. Thousands of families in North Carolina rely on raw pet milk for their pets’ health. Pasteurized milk is not a healthy food for pets—something that has been known for decades.
2. Farmers and wildlife rescuers use raw milk for animal consumption as a source of nourishment for orphaned livestock and wildlife.
3. Raw pet milk sales are an income source to help both small-scale dairies and Grade A dairies stay in business. The North Carolina dairy industry needs help; in 2003 there were 400 Grade A dairies in the state but by 2020 that number was down to 138. It’s even lower than that now.
WAPF will issue further alerts on SB 639 as events warrant.
