Hosted by the Weston A Price Foundation in conjunction with our Wise Traditions conference
Please join us for the farm tour to be held on Monday, November 12th. You may come to this event even if you are not attending the rest of the conference.
We will visit two farms in the beautiful Virginia countryside, a biodynamic winery and have a delicious, Nourishing Traditions-friendly lunch at the home of a board
member.
$60 per person includes bus transportation, tour and lunch.
Gather at lobby – Westfields Marriot, Chantilly, VA at 7:15 and depart by 7:30
We will have a tour of RUCKER FARM which is a sweet, small herdshare operation on a beautiful piece of land. Heidi Eastham is the owner and manager. Besides showing us her farm, Heidi will explain to us the details of running a herdshare program, how to find a suitable program, what you would want to ask the farmer and what the farmer will likely ask you.
Ussery Homestead Tour
We will visit the homestead of Harvey Ussery, the “chicken man of Hume.” On only 2.5 acres of land, he has attained ‘food independence.’ His specialty is pasture-fed chickens. Harvey is a speaker and author and will gladly show what he has been able to do on a small piece of land. See: www.themodernhomestead.us
Chateau Obrien Tour
The vineyard is 15 acres set on a picturesque hilltop. The wine is handcrafted from rootstock that was imported from France and grafted with American rootstock. The vines were hand selected for intensity of flavor and true varietal character and are nurtured through biodynamic agriculture.
Lunch at Board Member’s House
Cherie Calvert is happy to welcome us for a ‘Weston A. Price – friendly’ meal in her beautiful home. This will be a perfect way to end our lovely, educational outing.
Return to the hotel around 3:30
