OCTOBER 2012 INFORMATION ALERT
Please read to the end. We have many updates that will be of interest to you this month!
WEBSITE UPDATE
Our sites have been the target of a hacker attack that re-directed our visitors to sites that distribute malware. As soon as we became aware of this, we took our sites off-line to disinfect and further shield them. As part of this effort we are in the process of moving the sites to a new, more secure platform and a new, faster and more secure server. We appreciate your patience during this challenging time and apologize in advance for any down-time which may happen as we move to our new “home”. Your digital security is of paramount importance to us and we are doing everything possible to safeguard it.

LOCAL CHAPTERS
We now have 580 chapters worldwide! The volunteers who serve as chapter leaders are generously working to help people in their area find nutrient-dense foods. Some chapter leaders also choose to host meetings. If you have a farm food or artisan food product they should know about, please contact your local chapter leader.
If you are looking for foods or want to see whether there are meetings in your area, please see the list of local chapters on our website and in our journal.
If you don’t see one in your area, check again later; we are getting new chapters weekly; or consider offering to be a Chapter Leader yourself. Besides being a member of WAPF in good standing and submitting a short annual report, your only obligation is to provide a list of food sources for those who contact you. Meetings are appreciated but optional.
MEMBERSHIP – GIVE A GIFT AND GET A GIFT
WAPF membership is now just over 15,000! We are grateful to members who have encouraged others to join, especially those who have hosted a table at an event. Thanks also to those who offer gift memberships to their friends and family. If you offer someone a gift membership, we will send you a copy of the Spring 2012 issue as a thank you (while supplies last). Consider a gift membership for your next birthday present, wedding or baby shower gift.
We keep membership fees low but depend largely on these fees to accomplish our work. Our membership is growing, allowing us to take on new projects and continue old ones. Please encourage others to join or to donate so that we can continue our efforts.
Membership Poster
We have produced a membership poster and would be happy to send you a free copy. Email info@westonaprice.org to request one. We suggest displaying it next to the Dietary Guidelines Booklet in an office, store, meeting place, etc.

Death of a PETA Spokesman
http://www.westonaprice.org/blogs/kdaniel/2012/09/12/death-of-a-peta-spokesman/
In the movie Forks over Knives, T. Colin Campbell, PhD, and Caldwell Esselsytn, MD, promote the myth that low-fat, plant-based diets confer protection from heart disease. Dr. Esselstyn even flat out guarantees that vegans will never have a heart attack. Ever. Sadly, plenty of vegans suffer or have died from heart disease. And last week we learned the sad news of the death of Green Mile actor Michael Clarke Duncan whom PETA said was enjoying “the best health of his life” after adopting a diet high in fruits, vegetables, beans, peanuts, and tofu.

Does Eating Egg Yolks Increase Arterial Plaque?
http://www.westonaprice.org/blogs/cmasterjohn/2012/08/16/does-eating-egg-yolks-increase-arterial-plaque/
In this post Chris dissects the recent study purported to show that consuming egg yolks is almost as bad for our arteries as smoking cigarettes.
QUESTIONS ANSWERED BY SALLY FALLON MORELL
Q. I will be interviewed on the radio for my work and want to mention WAPF. Will you give me a quote to use on the radio or anytime for that matter?
A. The Weston A. Price Foundation shows the scientific validation of traditional foodways. WAPF advocates a return to pasture-based agriculture and old-fashioned nutrient-dense foods like eggs, butter, raw milk, cod liver oil and organ meats. WAPF has hundreds of local chapters that help people find pasture-based meats, eggs and raw dairy products from local farms. Visit our website at westonaprice.org.
Q. As a 1st grade teacher I want to provide my students with a healthy snack. What do you suggest for an inexpensive, low prep snack?
A. My suggestion would be chunks of cheese and pieces of fatty salami.
Q. Is palm shortening a healthy fat? What is the difference between the red and the other?
A. Yes, it is a stable, healthy fat. The processing removes the carotenes and other compounds, changing it from a red oil to a white oil. The red oil is healthier, but the taste is usually objectionable to westerners.
