The ninth of our 11 Wise Traditions Dietary Principles is to use unrefined salt liberally. We recommend unrefined salt and offer a complete list of recommendations in our annual shopping guide sent to all members or available for purchase for a nominal fee. We recently tested lead levels in a number of salt manufactures and Maldon was one that tested low. We didn’t test Jacobsen’s Pure Kosher Sea Salt, however both Lead Safe Mama and Mamavation have and the levels were too low for the lab to detect. Each of these manufacturers offer recipes on their websites. They may not all honor our dietary recommendations, so please be aware that we haven’t vetted each and every one of them! For example, with Jacobsen’s Salted Tomato Lemonade we’d swap the white sugar with sucanat or rapadura. Enjoy these resources:

Interesting that Maldon tested low while Jacobsenβs Pure Kosher Sea Salt wasnβt tested, especially given the emphasis on unrefined salt and mineral levels. Iβll be curious to compare the manufacturersβ recipes and see how they use these salts.
The comparison of unrefined salts was especially useful, particularly the note that Maldon tested low and that Jacobsenβs Pure Kosher Sea Salt wasnβt tested. Itβs a good reminder that the source and mineral content of salt matter, not just the label.
